Period Poverty campaign

A campaign unapologetically bringing period poverty onto the streets of Amsterdam.

For over a year I have volunteered with the grassroots and intersectional group Neighborhood Feminists. At the end of 2021, I proposed this campaign and worked on the strategy, design, copywriting and production.

Despite its progressive image, Amsterdam is a vastly unequal city. Those without papers, stable housing and jobs can find it hard to get enough support from the government, which means they lack access to basic resources - including period products. Neighborhood Feminists and other groups fill these gaps left by the government, but this shouldn’t be the case. So we created this campaign to recruit new people to the cause, raise money for our projects and put pressure on city government to do something about period poverty. The posters were distributed guerilla-style in both English and Dutch through our volunteer network.

Made with all the incredible Neighborhood Feminists collective including Nicole, Tammy, Anneloes, Camila, Ivanka, Deirdre, Faith, Harriet and many more volunteers and friends.
