Anne’s Story

A film telling the story of how a student became a planet hunter.

Anne Dattilo is a college student who used machine learning to discover two new exoplanets. We heard about her story and wanted to share it to demonstrate the power of open-source ML tools and inspire another generation of young people.

We told the story of Anne’s journey by combining live action footage shot in deep Texas with world-class animation from Buck. The animation enabled us to visualise the parts of the film we couldn’t shoot - outer space, complex algorithms and Anne’s imagination.

I helped develop the idea and narrative for the film, as well as the art direction approach and launch strategy.
